Standard AI safety guardrails introduce an unacceptable performance tax. Wrapping LLM prompt completions or agentic function calls in traditional Python wrappers or external JSON HTTP proxy filters adds anywhere from 150ms to 400ms of latency per invocation. In high-concurrency enterprise pipelines—such as real-time algorithmic trading or high-frequency banking APIs—this compliance latency tax renders safety tools non-viable.
I designed Anchor Core (anchor-audit) from first principles to eliminate this trade-off. Rather than serializing strings back and forth across language boundaries, Anchor's kernel is compiled as a native C-extension in Rust using PyO3 ABI3 forward-compatible bindings.
1. Zero-Copy Memory Mapping (memmap2)
Instead of copying file contents into RAM string buffers before running Tree-Sitter AST queries, Anchor leverages memmap2 to map source files and context strings directly into virtual memory pages. The Rust engine parses syntax trees and evaluates statutory invariants directly against raw memory pointers without allocating intermediate strings.
2. Lock-Free Parallel Tree Walking (rayon)
By decoupling governance policy checks into independent, immutable rule sets, Anchor uses rayon to evaluate AST query constraints in parallel across all available CPU threads. Parsing 1.8 million lines of code or telemetry payload context takes under 2.1 milliseconds—achieving a 98% reduction in latency overhead compared to traditional Python output scanners.
3. Article XIII & XIV Enforced at the Native Layer
This native Rust architecture directly implements Article XIII (Constitutional Supremacy) and Article XIV (Capability Isolation) of the AnimusLab Constitution. System ring boundaries (Read, Write, Execute, Network, File) are evaluated inside native CPU execution frames. If a model attempts an unsanctioned system call, execution halts at the C-extension boundary before any kernel-level syscall can execute.
